Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Side Money collects, why, and the choices you have about it. Side Money is operated by Side Money LLC.

1 Overview

Side Money ("Side Money," "we," "us") helps you figure out which side hustles fit your skills, interests, and available time, and gives you a short course to get started. This policy covers the information we collect through the Side Money mobile app (the "App") and what we do with it.

2 Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, that provider shares your name and email address (or a private relay address, if you choose to hide your email) along with a unique account identifier. We never see your password.

Profile information. The display name and avatar you choose (a preset icon, or a photo you upload), and an automatically assigned 4-digit friend code.

Quiz and matching data. Your answers to the onboarding questionnaire — skills, hobbies, interests, and commitment level — and the side-hustle matches generated from them.

Activity data. Which hustle courses you've viewed or chosen, your daily login dates, and your current login streak.

Friends and social features. Friend requests you send or receive, their status, and the sharing permissions you set for each friend (whether they can see your course, your streak, or nudge you).

Date of birth. Collected once at signup, solely to verify you meet the minimum age requirement described below. We don't display it anywhere in the App.

Push notification token. If you allow notifications, a device-specific token used only to deliver the notifications described below.

Anonymous usage analytics. Which hustle a user selects, recorded with no name, account ID, or other identifier attached — used in aggregate to see which hustles are popular.

Crash and diagnostic data. If the App encounters an unexpected error, we automatically collect a crash report — the error and a technical trace of what led to it, your device model and OS version, and the App version — so we can find and fix the problem. This is sent through Sentry, a third-party error-monitoring service.

3 How we use it

• To operate the App and match you to relevant side hustles
• To power the friend features you choose to use, respecting the sharing permissions you set
• To send notifications you've allowed (friend requests, accepted requests, nudges, streak reminders)
• To respond to support requests and suggestions
• To understand, in aggregate and anonymously, which hustles are most popular

4 How we share it

Service providers. We use InstantDB to store app data, Apple and Google to authenticate sign-in, Expo to deliver push notifications, and Sentry to receive crash reports when something goes wrong. Each receives only what it needs to perform that function.

Other users. Your display name, avatar, and friend code are visible to other signed-in users so the friend-code lookup can work. Your current course and streak are visible only to friends you've allowed to see them.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use third-party advertising networks.

5 Your choices & retention

You can edit your display name, avatar, and chosen course any time in Profile. Signing out clears your onboarding progress so you can start fresh. You control notification and photo-library permissions in your device settings, and friend-sharing permissions from within the App. To request full account deletion, email us using the address below.

6 Children's privacy

Side Money is not directed to children and requires everyone to be at least 16 years old to sign up. We ask for your date of birth at account creation to enforce this, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

7 Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

8 Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the App.
